History

The Ford RS200 was produced by Ford between 1984 to1986. It is a purpose built mid engine, 4-wheel drive Group B rally car, designed to comply with FIA homologation regulations at the time, and to compete with cars from Audi and Peugeot. 200 road legal versions of the car had to be built. The new vehicle was a unique design, featuring a plastic/fibreglass composite body designed by Ghia. The car was powered by a 1.8 liter, single turbocharged Ford/Cosworth "BDT" engine, producing up to 450 horsepower (340kW) in racing trim. The RS 200 was regarded to have the best balance and poise of any of its competitors, but failed to be competitive. Its power to weight ratio was poor by comparison, and its engine produced notorious low-RPM lag, making the car difficult to drive.

This famous rallying Ford RS200, was driven by Trevor Hopkins who won the British Rallycross championships for four years, but not in the RS200, which he campaigned in between 1980-1990.
