C3156 Scalextric Ford RS200 1986 – Rally of Sweden #8

The Ford RS200 was produced by Ford between 1984 to1986. It is a purpose built mid engine, 4-wheel drive Group B rally car, designed to comply with FIA homologation regulations at the time,  and to compete with cars from Audi and Peugeot. As part of the homologation regulations, 200 road legal versions of the car had to be built. The RS 200 was a unique design, featuring a plastic/fibreglass composite body designed by Ghia,and powered by a 1.8 litre, single turbocharged Ford/Cosworth "BDT" engine, producing up to 450 horsepower (340kW) in race trim.  The RS 200 was regarded to have the best balance and poise of any of its competitors, but failed to be competitive. Its power to weight ratio was poor by comparison, and its engine produced notorious low-RPM lag, making the car difficult to drive. The car needed more development time to be competitive, and Group B rally was banned mid way through the 1986 season.
