History
The iconic Ford Mk II Escort had a successful rallying career, winning the RAC Rally every year from 1975-1979. Ari Vatanen managed to win the drivers title again in 1981 at the wheel of a Ford Escort RS1800, despite the arrival of the four wheel drive Audi Quattros. The Ford Escort Mk II also competed and won in numerous other international rallies.
Bertie Fisher was Irelands most successful rally driver of all time, he won the circuit of Ireland 3 times in 1995, 1997 and 1999. Bertie Fisher’s career began as a teenage navigator in the late 1960’s, and became a driver in 1971. His talent as a driver was recognised when he acquired the ex Russell Brookes Mk II Escort, and managed a third place in the 1979 Circuit of Ireland.
