AFX22068 AFX 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 – White/Blue

Launched in 1964, the Ford Mustang was a trend setter. Relatively compact, the car was aimed at young people for its affordability and sporty nature. The product was so successful it was the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A and sold a million cars in less than two years. It even created a class all its own, called the “pony” car.

Of course, more is always better and by mid-1964 Lee Iaccoca sought out Carroll Shelby to create a racing version of the Mustang. Shelby had only months to build a better handling, harder-hitting powerhouse if it was to compete as a B Production SCCA race car. For extra drama, qualifying for the SCCA class required production of no less than 100 street-legal examples.

Engineered by Chuck Cantwell, Ken Miles helmed the mechanical development with designer Peter Brock on the graphics. They were completed just in time for the 1965 season. With a 289 cubic inch V8 engine delivering 306 horsepower, the race car performed like a champ and won the B Production National Championships in 1965 and 1966. In fact, they beat Shelby’s own Cobras! And the streetcar? They made over 2,300 in those two years.

Now AFX brings the Shelby Mustang to life with its white body donning original Guardsman Blue metallic race stripes and chrome wheels.

The AFX HO scale, Shelby Mustang GT350 Cars, features the, all new Mega-G+ Chassis (Long). The Mega-G+ Chassis has been completely redesigned for better handling and performance from the ground up. It is lighter, lower, and narrower with a lower Center of Gravity than any other HO Chassis available. The Chassis is made from strong, super durable Nylatron, with just enough flex, and fitted with Level 30 Neodymium Traction Magnets. It is powered by a smooth, reliable, and powerful FN20 Can Motor, with High Carbon brushes. The motor provides smooth, reliable, and consistent power while using 33% less energy than the Mega-G Chassis. The new chassis also features an Extra Long Tapered Guide Pin with redesigned Pick-up Shoes and for better and more consistent handling.

The AFX Cars are supplied fully assembled, and finished in spectacular colours and ready to race. It will run on any HO Scale Track system including Autoworld, Life Like, Tyco etc.

Mega-G+ Chassis

The Mega-G+ Chassis is a completely new chassis that sets a new standard in performance, detail and accuracy. It is not only faster and lighter, it also corners and handles better, and is more fun and easier to drive. The new Mega-G+ chassis has been completely re-designed from the ground up to be smoother, quieter, more durable. It is 5% lighter and uses 33% less electricity, and runs cooler than the original Mega-G chassis. The new Mega-G+ chassis makes it possible to create more stunning, accurate and realistic bodies than ever before, due to its long wheelbase, low center of gravity and narrow dimensions. Combine that with superb graphics, which uses up to 8 colours and you have set a new standard, in detail and accuracy for 1/64 scale cars.
