The origins of the Ford’s GT40 MKIV is marred by tragedy. It began in 1966 with the J-Car just after LeMans. Ken Miles was test driving the car when it crashed on an embankment, bursting into flames. The rest is heavy-hearted history.
Ford went back to the drawing board, the result being the MKIV chassis. There were only 10 made, only half of which ever actually raced in only 2 major races: Sebring ’67 and LeMans ’67.
The J7 chassis was one of the MKIV renditions lucky enough to make it to the famous track at LeMans. Copper coloured and donning the #3, it sped through the raceway with Andretti at the helm. He’d held an impressive second place for most of the race when he came in for a standard pitstop. A teammate of Andretti’s who drove the #1 car arrived seconds after him. The driver, A.J. Foyt immediately began complaining about Andretti’s trademark aggressive driving and an argument ensued. Distracted by the kerfuffle, a crew member accidentally installed one of Andretti’s brake pads backwards. At 3:30AM Andretti left the pit. Upon approaching the first turn he hit the non-existent brakes and the car wrecked. Thankfully he walked away unscathed. And just like that, his incredible second place position was no more.
Mega-G+ Chassis
The Mega-G+ Chassis is a completely new chassis that sets a new standard in performance, detail and accuracy. It is not only faster and lighter, it also corners and handles better, and is more fun and easier to drive. The new Mega-G+ chassis has been completely re-designed from the ground up to be smoother, quieter, more durable. It is 5% lighter and uses 33% less electricity, and runs cooler than the original Mega-G chassis. The new Mega-G+ chassis makes it possible to create more stunning, accurate and realistic bodies than ever before, due to its long wheelbase, low center of gravity and narrow dimensions. Combine that with superb graphics, which uses up to 8 colours and you have set a new standard, in detail and accuracy for 1/64 scale cars.

AFX Collector Series – Clear
The Race and Performance Cars of the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s merged Art with Engineering to reach new levels of Speed and Beauty. Perhaps never before or since have automobiles made such leaps in Power, Control and Design. The AFX Collector Series honors these achievements with stunning recreations of the Best Cars of this era.
The AFX Clear Series Cars feature, clear windscreens and detailed, photo realistic interiors, that really set these cars apart. AFX achieves this by moulding the whole body in clear plastic material and then painting over everything except the areas that should be clear. The result is a Car with a clear windscreen without the need for separate, bulky, glued in parts. A first in 1/64th scale.
And what do you see when you look through those clear windshields? Realistic printed colour interiors. That’s right – seats, spare tires, carburetors, and whatever else was in the real car’s interior. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes to the look of the car. And only AFX has it!
